We are pleased to announce that the CIGRE SC-B5 Colloquium will be held at the Osaka　International Convention Center (Osaka, Japan) from June 30 to July 6, 2025.
The rapid development of communication and digital technologies has brought about the transition from the conventional hard-wired systems to IEC 61850 based systems in digital substations.
The introduction of Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) compliant with IEC 61850 is expected to lead to hardware consolidation and cost reduction. In addition, the digitization of substations enables sophisticated operation and maintenance using digital data. While digitization brings many benefits, interoperability between different manufacturers' IEDs and how to update conventional substations to digital substations must further the ongoing discussion.
Therefore, we set the following three preferential subjects in this Colloquium.
PS1: Interoperability of IEDs of different manufacturers and technologies integrated in one PACS
PS2: PACS Life Cycle Performance and Longevity
PS3: Experiences and possibilities on revised principles and policies related to modern protection IEDs.
Over the three days, many papers will be presented in one tutorial and three sessions. Through this Colloquium, we hope to contribute to the development of power technology worldwide by providing an opportunity to share solutions to challenges in different countries and promote deepening engagement among participants.
During the Colloquium, in the spotlight around the world, "Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai," whose theme is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," will also be held on the artificial island "Yumeshima" in Osaka Bay. We will organize a technical tour related to the Osaka Expo, so please look forward to it.
